Xray Enabled Flash Application with MTASC

Filed under: dev, flash — michaelangela @ 5:04 am

Still haven’t gotten this to work yet… digging digging…

[edit...]

I did the simple app shown on this page and… it didn’t work… :-( But that’s because I was using

XrayLoader.loadConnector(“xrayConnector_1.6.swf”);

which wouldn’t work because I am actually using 1.6.1. With a minor change (to 1.6.1) and Behold the power of Xray!

Lief Wells was asking on the Xray mailing list today about the connector only tutorial that I wrote a while back. The URLs have all changed on Blitz’s website where it used to be, so I’m not sure how to reference that any more. And as a lot has changed since I wrote that thing it’s about time for an update.

Apollo or XULRunner – And where’s WPF/E?

Apollo, XULRunner, HaXe, etc., etc…

FlashGen.Com .: blog :. » Apollo or XULRunner – And where’s WPF/E?

I came across a few interesting articles and documents recently and it got me thinking more about Apollo. As most of us are already aware Apollo is a runtime in development at Adobe allowing the deployment of Flash platform, HTML and or PDF applications onto the desktop. Thus allowing them to operate just like native desktop applications – desktop style titlebars, read / write to the filesystem, custom chrome etc. I’d also assume that integration with external hardware like webcams, printers, scanners etc would be on the cards but we’ll just have to see what they have up their sleeves. However, considering Actionscript already allows access to webcams and microphones it’s not a massive leap of faith or functionality.

SWHX withAsWind

Even includes a little AWML. Groovy. Haxe vs. Apollo. The comparison must be coming…

SWHX with AsWing

Here is an example that shows how SWHX and Aswing can be used together to create a Windows desktop application. Before playing with this, I urge any newcomer to look first at the SWHX samples that come with the SWHX library. After all, this example is just an improvement over samples/6-flash-api example.

Clearsilver

So this is ClearSilver…

ClearSilver Documentation

ClearSilver is first and foremost designed to be extremely fast. It is coded completely in C and exported to your script language of choice (i.e. Python, Perl). As a result, it is notably faster than template systems written in a script language. However, its design has additional benefits. It is also one of the only template systems available which allows you to easily mix-and-match multiple programming languages with the same templates, even on the same page. This allows you to optimize your website by writing C-modules to handle speed-sensitive sections, while leaving the majority of your site in easy to write script code.
