Object-Oriented Actionscript for Flash 8 overflows with knowledge (Part 2) Zeus Labs

Filed under: flash, flex — michaelangela @ 10:01 am

Interesting review with pointers to things like the need for a super-flexible framework for Flash projects with ultra-short deadlines, and perhaps the model-glue framework I posted earlier.

Object-Oriented Actionscript for Flash 8 overflows with knowledge (Part 2) Zeus Labs:

If you’re looking for the ultimate book on Actionscript 2 programming, Object-Oriented Actionscript for Flash 8 should be your first choice. The book comes in at 540 pages, and holds so much knowledge that I needed to break my review into two parts. Before leaping into my thoughts on the second half, don’t forget to take a look at my previous examination.

Building your first Model-Glue application (part 1)

Building your first Model-Glue application (part 1):

Readers of my blog know that I am a huge fan of the Model-Glue framework. While I certainly don’t consider myself an expert, I thought folks might appreciate a simple walk through building a real Model-Glue application. With that in mind, I’m starting a new series today. In this series I’ll design a Model-Glue application and share the complete code as each step is built. I will also host the application online so my readers can see it in action (and see it as we build it up). One quick reminder before we start. I’m a Model-Glue newbie. I love it and I want the world to appreciate it, but do know that I’ll probably make a few mistakes along the way. Those of you more advanced then I, feel free to chime in, or even just to point out alternatives. So with that out of the way, let’s get started.

The Model-Glue Framework

The Model-Glue Framework:

Model-Glue is a ColdFusion-based framework that’s designed to make your life easy. It separates presentation from business logic (MVC!), does repetitive work for you (scaffolds!), and plays well with other open-source ColdFusion frameworks (ColdSpring! Reactor!).

The MKVille Blog: Model-Glue application walk-through

The MKVille Blog: Model-Glue application walk-through:

Once again Raymond Camden is putting every other ColdFusion developer to shame. He started a new blog series titled “Building your first Model-Glue application.” It will be a step-by-step walk through of creating a Model-Glue app. If you’ve never used a ColdFusion framework (you’re still writing spaghetti code, aren’t you!), then this blog series may help you get introduced to the framework world. I have used Model Glue on one production website and have dabbled with it for a while now, and I think it is great, especially when combined with Doug’s Reactor.
