Just noting… kinda cool.

You can use the National Geographic Map Machine to make your very own “theme” map.

VMware converter

Dude…. even hot clone a machine while it’s running?!

There is a comment in there about running financial/accounting software in a virtual machine. Makes sense. System down? Save the file, load it in another, up and running in no time. Now if only 3D, video, and other intensive stuff could run so well in a virtual machine…

The process of converting an existing physical machine to virtual for running under VMware can be convoluted, tedious, and fraught with peril. The free (for now, at least) VMware Converter 3.0, now in beta, greatly simplifies this process. It will even “hot clone” a machine while it’s running.

Just tried CCleaner

Filed under: Uncategorized — michaelangela @ 2:32 am

Just tried it. My laptop is a bit skittish… Angela’s is much more well behaved. But that’s probably because I have installed and uninstalled tons of stuff. Recently I installed Modo 202 (very very nice) which, with everything included, installs over 2GB of data (ouch!). So I cleaned up about 8GB over the last few days, which I needed to do anyway.

Cleaner found an additional ~290MB! I did the settings for Firefox to not wipe cookies, passwords, etc., but still take out the cache. There were Flash cache data, Quicktime data, Java cache data… it was an education. I still have to check out the registry options though…

CCLeaner and Firefox

Filed under: Uncategorized — michaelangela @ 2:03 am

Wow… totally separate note. Just selected some text before pulling up Performancing. Auto quote. Nice touch. (Yeah I’m green.)

Anyway, for us Firefox users who may use CCleaner, just a note to watch. Some folks say it can wipe all of Firefox’s stuff. However with the settings, you can save your stuff:

You can adjust exactly what CCleaner will remove from Firefox by going under Cleaner > Applications. Under Firefox it gives you five options — cookies, download history, internet cache, internet history, and saved form information.

I use CCleaner all the time! Love it. Updates come out quite frequently too.
